Scores of common mergansers scattered south of the center of the lake, most facing the southern breeze. Immature loon farther north, repeatedly ducking its head under the surface of the water.

Wildflowers in bloom along the creek and the lake shore: white snakeroot, zigzag goldenrod, tall goldenrod, cardinal flower, white aster, purple aster, gray-headed coneflower (still, especially along the creek), purple ironweed, smooth oxeye, spotted touch-me-not, spotted knapweed, smooth blue aster, stiff goldenrod, others. Bunch of red jack-in-the-pulpit berries next to the creek.
